Weltmaschine

Built between 1958 and 1981, what kind of noise machine is Franz Gsellmann's Weltmaschine? This "World Machine" near Kaag Austria is a festive structure built of 2000 different shrining components all rotating, roaring and flashing.

This mechanical siren screams to life with 25 electric motors. Gsellmann's Weltmaschine seems to be getting louder with age. Hear it: HERE

When you decide to launch a new series, where better to start than with a recently discovered box of DAT masters from The Haters? Helicopter is proud to present a two-volume collection of rare works by The Haters to inaugurate it’s new series focusing on West Coast artists.

These two volumes are an absolutely crucial collection of classic Haters entropy. Volume 1 collects works from 7-inch releases, while Volume 2 collects pieces originally submitted to compilations. Digitalkompost

Staged at the Hermann Nitsch Museum last week, Heinz Cibulka did his "Digitalkompost" performance by moving and arranging organic matter from one open container to another. GX Jupitter-Larsen provided a live soundtrack using his own containers, two amplified suitcases. Watch video highlights HERE .

...at Ars Electronica (2012)

GX Jupitter-Larsen at Ars Electronica again, doing a "Loud Luggage" in which he used a modified transistor radio to interferer with the signals from his amplified suitcases. It was broadcast live on Austrian national radio (ORF) in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of Kunstradio Radiokunst.

Heckler (1999)

GX Jupitter-Larsen's favorite heckler was one he encountered in San Jose on June 25 1999. An anonymous young man emerged from the audience wearing a hand-drawn t-shirt depicting, among other things, a caricature of GX. He proceed to march up and down, yelling into a funnel all the reasons he hated The Haters. After a few minutes he just walked out of the gallery without any further clarification to the matter. Well done sir...!!! Whoever you are...

Dirwyn (New York, 2001)

Another variation of the “Dirwyn” performance. This one performed by GX Jupitter-Larsen in New York on June 11, 2001. Listen to an extended excerpt HERE.

Sandpaper Dress (2004)

On June 5 2004 in Los Angeles, an amplified tin funnel was rubbing off against a sandpaper dress being worn by Jessica King. GX Jupitter-Larsen pressed the funnel harder and harder against the dress, pushing Jessica down. Bent out of shape, when Jessica finally fell to the floor, the 14 minute performance was over.

Celebrating Entropy (Chicago, 1995)

On May 31 1995 in Chicago, four members of The Haters destroyed a pile of garbage. Everyone from the gallery audience helped out in making a mess of the place. It all ended with your traditional smoke bomb.

The Grinding Gig (San Francisco, 1993)

On May 21 1993, in San Francisco, seven members of The Haters were crowded onto a small club stage. Every performer had a live mic and some kind of grinding tool. All slowly ground away at their mics in this 22 minute blast of feedback, crackles & pops. Hear a 5 minute excerpt: HERE
