At the BONE performance art fest (2011)

Dec 2 2011, in Bern Switzerland: While performing "Loud Luggage / Booming Baggage" Jessica King sat holding a small amplified suitcase on her head while GX Jupitter-Larsen pressed his larger amplified suitcase into hers. She was squashed downward, as GX leaned in. Noise, as if by a harsh hug.

Mingwave...

The mingwave is that nearly indiscernible pause between an idea and the language used to express that idea. The spark of an idea, and the words that would carry that idea forth do not spring out simultaneously. There is a lag, even if that idea never leaves the brain...

No Comment Art Show (Oct 13, 2011)

Oct 13 2011 New York, Adel Souto and Ian McGillivray sat up a noise installation by GX Jupitter-Larsen at the No Comment Art Show at 23 Wall Street. The exhibition was inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement at nearby Liberty Plaza. The installation was a hour of sounds from Occupy LA recorded and mixed by GX: HERE + HERE

The Grinding Gig (1992) / Building Empty Holes (1993)

The first time The Grinding Gig was performed outside of Europe was Dec 1992 in New York, in a dark warehouse basement full of junk. The main source of lighting was the blank static from a TV set hung just above the performers. During the whole 25 minutes, a petrol-like fragrance poured out from the grinder’s motor. As the microphone was slowly pushed into the grinding wheel, it turned into a fine black powder which filled the air. Just two weeks later, with a screwdriver in hand, GX Jupitter-Larsen quietly removed 100 screws from the Coney Island Boardwalk. Staged during most of the day, this performance was another variation of Building Empty Holes.

Changing The Tire (1995)

New York June 1995: A young girl in a gown was wearing an auto tire over their shoulder like a sash. Using an electric drill mounted with a sanding wheel, GX Jupitter-Larsen was wearing away at this tire for 30 minutes. A third performer was processing the resulting sounds. The smell of rubber filled the small club. Polite applause followed.

Meuble pour Trous (1991)

Paris, Oct 24 1991: Two members of The Haters were involved as one performer tore paper while the other used an electric drill to build lots of little empty holes in an variety of large wooden objects. Entitled “Meuble pour Trous”.

Orbit About The Polywave

Since 2009, a team of artists and technicians, in Graz Austria, have been constructing a nanosatellite for low earth orbit. Mursat1 is scheduled to launch in late summer 2012.

In addition to its normal functions, the satellite will implement a performance piece by GX Jupitter-Larsen. Entitled Orbit About The Polywave, Mursat1 will count its steps while in space.
